Do people feel safe in Mexico? It sounds like a simple question, but the answers show just how differently people can experience everyday life in the same country. As part of a survey conducted by Bohemian Research, MultiPolls was one of the respondent apps used to collect answers from people across Mexico. In total, 500 respondents answered one question: “Do you feel safe in Mexico?” And the results were pretty divided.
Less than half said they feel safe in Mexico
Overall, 45.8% of respondents answered “yes” when asked whether they feel safe in Mexico. Another 33.4% said “more or less”, while 20.8% answered “no.”
That means 54.2% of respondents did not give a clear yes. More than half of everyone who took part in the survey. So while many people said they feel safe, a significant share expressed at least some uncertainty about safety in Mexico.
Women were less likely to answer yes
The results also showed a noticeable difference between men and women. Among women, 40.7% said they feel safe in Mexico, compared with 54.3% of men.
Women were also more likely to say they do not feel safe at all. The answer “no” was selected by 23.9% of women, compared with 15.6% of men. The results suggest that feelings of safety can vary significantly depending on who you ask.
What about different age groups?
Age made a difference too. Respondents aged 45–54 were the most likely to give an answer other than a clear yes. In this age group, 63.0% answered either “more or less” or “no.”
Among respondents aged 18–24, that share was lower, at 49.6%. In other words, younger respondents in this survey were more likely to give a clear positive answer than those aged 45–54.
